
Adult Leader BASIC Training
IMPORTANT: ALL LEADERS NEED TO COMPLETE "FAST START: BOY
SCOUTING" AND "YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING" AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!
To be fully trained and wear the “Trained” emblem, the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters must complete the following:
- Youth Protection Training: available on-line
- Fast Start: Boy Scouting: available on-line
- New Leaders Essentials: classroom course only
- Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training, Part 1:
classroom course only
- Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training, Part 2:
classroom course only
- Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training, Part 3:
classroom course only
- Introduction to Outdoor Skills: weekend overnight course only
To be fully trained and wear the “Trained” emblem, the members of the Troop Committee must complete the following:
- Youth Protection Training: available on-line
- Fast Start: Boy Scouting: available on-line
- New Leaders Essentials: classroom course only
- Troop Committee Challenge: available on-line
In addition, there are a number of important supplemental courses:
- Weather Hazards: On-line. This is a new course, very basic, but National will require someone with this training on EVERY outdoors event beginning January 1.
- Troop Committee Challenge: On-line. This is the specific training for members of the committee, but everyone can benefit from understanding how the committee works (or should.)
- Safe Swim Defense: On-line. Especially for those who go on the Troop Swims
- Safety Afloat: On-line. All those going on the Canoe Trip should take this course.
- Introduction to Merit Badge Counseling: Classroom course only. All counselors or potential counselors should take this course.

Troop 6 web site.

Notes on expirations:
- Youth Protection Training and Weather Hazards need to be retaken every 2 years
- Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat need to be retaken every 3 years.
