Adult Leader BASIC Training

IMPORTANT: ALL LEADERS NEED TO COMPLETE "FAST START: BOY SCOUTING" AND "YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING" AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!

To be fully trained and wear the “Trained” emblem, the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters must complete the following:

  1. Youth Protection Training: available on-line
  2. Fast Start: Boy Scouting: available on-line
  3. New Leaders Essentials: classroom course only
  4. Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training, Part 1: classroom course only
  5. Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training, Part 2: classroom course only
  6. Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training, Part 3: classroom course only
  7. Introduction to Outdoor Skills: weekend overnight course only

To be fully trained and wear the “Trained” emblem, the members of the Troop Committee must complete the following:

  1. Youth Protection Training: available on-line
  2. Fast Start: Boy Scouting: available on-line
  3. New Leaders Essentials: classroom course only
  4. Troop Committee Challenge: available on-line

In addition, there are a number of important supplemental courses:

  1. Weather Hazards: On-line. This is a new course, very basic, but National will require someone with this training on EVERY outdoors event beginning January 1.
  2. Troop Committee Challenge: On-line. This is the specific training for members of the committee, but everyone can benefit from understanding how the committee works (or should.)
  3. Safe Swim Defense: On-line. Especially for those who go on the Troop Swims
  4. Safety Afloat: On-line. All those going on the Canoe Trip should take this course.
  5. Introduction to Merit Badge Counseling: Classroom course only. All counselors or potential counselors should take this course.

The on-line versions are available at National Council’s MyScouting. Detailed instructions on how to get this set up are available on the How to Access On-Line Training Courses on Troop 6 web site. You will need an e-mail account. If you don’t have one, go to Google Mail and sign up for a free web based gmail account.
